I’m Keanu, 26, and I’m studying Sport and Exercise in Utrecht. At the moment I have a part-time job as a supervisor at Jumbo. My biggest passion is sport, and all the hobbies I have are to do with sport/exercise.

During my internship with The Power of Sports in Curaçao I learnt an enormous amount, both professionally and personally. What makes this experience extra special for me is that I was given the chance to set up a complete athletics programme myself. I shaped this programme with lots of enthusiasm and commitment, and it has now even become a permanent part of what The Power of Sports offers. That makes me really proud.

At The Power of Sports you don’t just learn how to deliver training sessions, but also how to develop yourself as a coach and as a person. You’re constantly challenged to be open to new experiences and to take the initiative. You learn to work in a different culture, with children and young people from diverse backgrounds, and you’re given plenty of room to put your own ideas into practice.

The organisation itself is brilliant. Everything is well organised and contact with the coordinators is pleasant and professional. They’re always available, help you think things through and make sure you quickly feel at home. So I can only give positive feedback about how everything runs, from the preparation to carrying out your internship.

I hope to return to Curaçao next year to be part of this amazing organisation again. The atmosphere, the children, the colleagues and the impact you make together: I want to experience that once more and help build it up further.
