What does TPOS STAND FOR?

Our international projects are fully managed by The Power of Sports. These projects are specifically designed for children and young people who come from disadvantaged neighbourhoods and currently have little to no access to structured sports lessons. Our aim is to offer these children and young people the opportunity to practice their favourite sport and excel, even at national level or at renowned clubs. In addition, we use sport as a powerful tool to keep this target group away from crime, drug use and gang culture and we encourage more female participation in sports. Our programmes have proven effects, and we are happy to share our impact reports to illustrate this.

Our Working Method

What does TPOS do for you?

We offer adventurous experiences abroad for interns and volunteers. You support our local team in facilitating sports activities for children and young people who do not receive regular sports lessons. In addition, we create tailor-made sports trips for classes or teams, tailored to their needs. As the only organization in the Netherlands with an exclusive focus on sports, we offer meaningful and educational experiences in unique locations. Our programs not only promote sports activities, but also intercultural exchange and personal growth through good guidance in the Netherlands and abroad. All this makes our organization a pioneer in the field of sports experiences abroad, where we strive to create the most fun and educational experience for our participants.

 Why pay for work

Paying for volunteer work or an internship sounds contradictory and it is, because why would you pay for the fact that you are coming to help?
The project where you are going to do an internship or volunteer work is not able to pay for your travel and accommodation. However, you will have to stay somewhere during your trip and preferably in a safe place. That is why we at The Power os Sports choose to invest in your safety. Wherever you go, you will always stay in good quality and safe accommodation.
We realize that it is not cheap to go abroad for a longer period of time and that our target group often does not have much money. We therefore always try to keep the costs as low as possible and if we look at other similar organizers, we have succeeded well. We do it to give Dutch young people a life experience that they will never forget and to provide underprivileged children/young people with good quality sports programs.
An experience abroad is investing in your personal development. You can of course look at what it costs, but even more important is the answer to the question; what does this give me? You will receive a wonderful experience in return that you will benefit from for the rest of your life.

What are you paying for?

Participation in our projects also requires a fee. Approximately 80% of this amount is transferred directly to the host organisation, which covers the costs of the stay of volunteers and interns. In addition, this contributes to the continuity and expansion of the project. The remaining 20%, which remains in the Netherlands, is used for structural costs. Since we send more than 100 volunteers and interns annually, this is a considerable amount. These financial resources are used for innovation. Since we manage our own programmes abroad, setting up new projects and programmes entails considerable costs. Every time we add a new destination, this is financed from this pot.
It is important to note that no one within De Kracht van Sport receives a salary, at most a fee. Our goal is to continuously innovate and invest in our organisation until we have achieved our goal.

Keurmerk – Volunteer Aware

The Power of Sport proudly takes the position as one of the founding members of the ‘Volunteer Aware’ quality mark. This quality mark founded in the Netherlands is designed to distinguish high-quality volunteer organisations from those engaged in ‘voluntourism’. We want to emphasise that our projects are rooted in a sincere dedication to a noble cause. With this quality mark we not only want to provide transparency about our own integrity, but also encourage other organisations to follow the right path.
Visit the Volunteer Aware website for more information about this quality mark and to gain insight into possible abuses in volunteering abroad.

Our Charity

In addition to the organization ‘The Power of Sports’, we have also set up a charity called ‘Stichting The Power of Sports’. This is also the name that our colleagues abroad use. For example, if you start working in Indonesia, you go to ‘Kekuatan Olahraga’ (this means The Power of Sports in Indonesian). This makes us one team. Our foundation in the Netherlands finances new projects that benefit the children and young people from our programs abroad. If you make a donation, we will ensure that 100% (except for the costs we make to the bank) of the donated money goes to the charity.
Our foundation is committed to utilizing the talent of young people, developing social skills, improving health, making social problems discussable, initiating intercultural communication and promoting social cohesion in neighborhoods. All of this is done with sport as the main pillar. Because unfortunately, sport is not self-evident for everyone, for example due to a lack of financial resources. Stichting The Power of Sports does want to make sport self-evident. Because the great thing about sport is that it is considered a universal language, regardless of origin, religion, language, culture or status.
