INTERNSHIP IN ARGENTINA
Argentina is a country in South America known for its diverse landscapes, vibrant culture, and deep passion for football. Buenos Aires, the capital, is famous for its stunning architecture, the enchanting tango, and its lively street life. The country also boasts some of the world’s most breathtaking natural wonders, such as the Iguazu Falls, the Andes mountain range, the vast expanses of Patagonia, and the magnificent Perito Moreno glaciers.
However, Argentina also faces significant challenges, particularly in terms of poverty. According to World Bank data, approximately 42% of the population was living below the poverty line in 2020. Buenos Aires, despite its charm, has numerous disadvantaged neighborhoods grappling with serious issues related to poverty, including crime, drug abuse, and violence. During your internship in Argentina, you will be working with young people from these underprivileged areas, offering them support and guidance.
Poverty has far-reaching consequences for the health and well-being of the population. Those living in poverty often have limited access to healthcare and quality education. Their living environments are typically less safe, with restricted access to basic amenities such as clean water and sanitation.
Several factors contribute to the high levels of poverty in Argentina, with economic instability being one of the most significant. Over the past decades, Argentina has faced periods of severe inflation, debt crises, and economic downturns, leading to widespread job losses and reduced incomes. Our foundation has witnessed these challenges firsthand, with an increasing number of children and young people participating in our programs. This situation highlights the urgent need for additional support, making your role as an intern in Argentina even more crucial.
Experiences
Our colleagues in Argentina are deeply involved in local projects that use sports as a tool to improve the lives of these children. They create safe spaces where young people can engage in sports and enjoy themselves. Beyond physical activity, these sports programs also help the children develop essential skills such as teamwork, decision-making, leadership, and communication. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to lead training sessions in various sports, including football, rugby, tennis, baseball, and basketball. Rest assured, you will not be working alone—each project is conducted in close collaboration with Argentine coordinators. Currently, more than 2,000 children participate in these impactful projects each year. This internship offers a meaningful way to contribute to the well-being of young people in Argentina while gaining valuable experience in a challenging and rewarding environment.

WHO IS THIS INTERNSHIP SUITABLE FOR?
Your goal as an intern isn’t necessarily to train the next Messi of Argentina—though who knows, it could happen! You don’t need to be an experienced coach or hold certifications. While a basic knowledge of the sport you’ll be teaching is useful, the most important thing is that you bring enthusiasm and energy to your lessons.
This internship is ideal for students pursuing sport-related studies, but it is also a great fit for those studying event/leisure management, marketing, educational, or cultural studies. It’s important to note that you will always be involved as a sports coach. In Argentina, you have the option to spend some days at the office working on your school or internship assignments. Some interesting internship projects could include organizing a large-scale sports event, incorporating a new sport into the curriculum, conducting research, or setting up a fundraising event.
We are always open to creating a customized internship for you through a personal consultation.

Arrival Weekends
I’m a vegetarian. Will my dietary preferences be accommodated?
- If you let us know in advance that you are a vegetarian, the team in Argentina will make sure to accommodate your dietary preferences.
Can I intern for less than four weeks?
- For your personal development, it is best to spend a longer period of time abroad. If you go for less than four weeks, it may feel more like a holiday experience. Therefore, we only offer intern opportunities starting from four weeks. To get the most out of your experience, we recommend staying for 12 weeks or longer.
Do I have to speak Spanish for my project in Argentina?
- It is not a must, but it will make your project easier. Our colleagues in Argentina of our charity speak good English, but in general Argentinians still speak quite poor English. We will therefore encourage you to take a Spanish course in advance. We can help you with this and we may reimburse this. Fortunately, sport is a language that everyone speaks.
What does my Spanish lesson week look like?
- -For interns who stay for 10 weeks or longer, we reimburse a Spanish lesson week in Argentina. If you go shorter then then 10 weeks then these lessons cost €200 | £170 | $230,-. The reduction will take 20 hours in total and will occur in the mornings. If you know well in advance that you want to do your internship in Argentina, we can see if we can reimburse a Spanish course in your home country so that you already have a good command of the Spanish language before you arrive.
What do I need to consider when traveling abroad?
- After our initial conversation, where everything is discussed, you’ll have some time to decide if this adventure is right for you. If you choose to go ahead, we will schedule a second conversation with you, during which we’ll go through the ‘Welcome Pack’ together. This pack contains all the details you need to consider, including what to bring, vaccinations, and other important preparations.
How many other people will I be there?
- There are always other interns/volunteers present at the accommodation in Argentina. The size of the group varies between 10 and 30. They are not all from the same country. You can contact us to ask how many others will be there during your period. We will also create a group app with people from your home country who will be making the trip in the same time frame. This way you can even get to know each other.
Sports in Argentina
Sports in Argentina are incredibly diverse, but football remains by far the most popular sport, both professionally and recreationally. Think of the legendary River Plate vs. Boca Juniors derby, and you’ll immediately understand the passion this sport ignites among Argentinians. In the neighborhoods where our foundation is active, you’ll also notice that football receives the most attention. Additionally, sports like hockey, rugby, swimming, and surprisingly, polo, are well-known. However, Pato, the national sport, isn’t very popular.
Argentina is one of the leading sports powers in the region and has consistently topped the medal table at the South American Games since 1978, with exceptions in 2002 and 2010. Despite a relatively modest record in traditional Olympic sports like athletics, swimming, and gymnastics, Argentina has had successful participations in other sports such as football, basketball, hockey, padel tennis, polo, and rugby.

ABOUT ARGENTINA
Argentina is a country in South America and the second-largest nation on the continent. It has a rich history and culture, shaped by a blend of European, indigenous, and African influences. Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, is known for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and European-style architecture.
The population of Argentina is around 45 million people and is highly diverse. The majority of the population is of European descent, primarily Spanish and Italian, but there are also significant indigenous and African communities within the country. The official language is Spanish.
Argentina is also a hub of culture, with a vibrant arts, music, and literary scene. Tango, a music and dance style that originated in Buenos Aires in the late 19th century, is a key element of Argentine culture and continues to be widely practiced and enjoyed.
However, the country faces significant social and economic challenges, including poverty, inequality, and political instability. Despite these difficulties, Argentina remains a unique and fascinating country with much to offer, from breathtaking natural landscapes to lively cities and a rich cultural heritage.
Accommodation
The accommodation is located in the heart of Buenos Aires. Here, you will be part of an international group, making it a lively and sociable place to stay. Interns and volunteers often spend time together, whether going out, traveling across the country, or simply exploring the city. The accommodation also features a common area where all volunteers and interns can relax. In the evenings, it’s common to have an “asado” (Argentine barbecue), which adds to the communal atmosphere. Of course, there is also space available for studying at the accommodation.
