Short bio
I’m 20, I play football as my sport and I work in hospitality.
How satisfied were you with the support from Holland?
The support from Holland was good. A clear explanation of what was expected. Also very helpful with any questions or anything unclear.
My story
“I look back on this experience with great fondness. It wasn’t just incredibly fun, but also really valuable.”
Renske · volunteering in Curaçao
During my stay in Curaçao I volunteered as a sports coach, focusing on football. My days were packed with different activities, in which I used sport and games to guide and motivate children.
In the mornings I taught PE lessons at a local school together with three other volunteers. We provided varied and challenging exercises, not only to keep the pupils physically active but also to encourage their teamwork and discipline.
In the afternoons we worked at an after-school club, where we organised sports and games activities. It was a great way to keep the children active after school and give them a safe and fun environment.
In the evenings I coached football for under 6 teams and girls’ teams. I found this particularly valuable, because I could help the young players develop their skills and discover more of their passion for football. It was lovely to see their progress and enthusiasm grow.
Alongside the volunteering I also regularly had free mornings or evenings, when I had time to explore the island and do fun activities, such as visiting beaches, snorkelling or discovering the local culture.
I look back on this experience with great fondness. It wasn’t just incredibly fun, but also really valuable. I learnt a lot, met new people and was able to make a real contribution. Volunteering in Curaçao is an experience I’d recommend to everyone!
What advice would you like to give future interns and volunteers?
Bring plenty of sports kit. And definitely enjoy the beautiful island.
