Hello,
We’re Shayen, 21, and Marit, 19. We’re in the final year of our Sport and Movement course. During our internship we did loads of sport and played lots with the children. From playing football with the big lads to colouring in with the little ones.
How satisfied were you with the support from Holland?
The support from Holland was really good. Even beforehand, during the first conversation, we got a clear picture of what we could expect. While we were in Costa Rica the support was also really good and we got quick replies to our questions.

Our first week in Costa Rica took quite a bit of getting used to. We were overwhelmed by new impressions and suffered badly from jet lag. Luckily we were welcomed with open arms by our fellow interns/volunteers and housemates. We had an amazing time with them. In the four months we were there, we shared the house with no fewer than 31 different volunteers and interns.
During our weeks in Costa Rica we did lots of different activities. We regularly did sport with the children, both at the church and at schools in the area. We also helped out at the local bakery, which was a special experience.
The best thing about our time in Costa Rica was the contact with the local people. It was inspiring to see how they live, and we learnt an incredible amount from it. Of course we also went on lots of trips: we went surfing, snorkelling, ziplining and even bungee jumping. We also visited impressive waterfalls, national parks, the crocodile bridge, La Tortuga, La Fortuna and much more. An absolute highlight was snorkelling at Isla del Caño, an experience we’ll never forget.
What advice would you like to give future interns and volunteers?
Enjoy every moment, the time flies by!
