Short biography
Hi! I am Indy and I am 20 years old. For my study Sports Science at the Hague University of Applied Sciences I was able to do an internship at the Power of Sports in Curacao. I played football for a long time myself so this internship matched my interests very well!

You notice that the children here are very grateful for the lessons they receive.

How satisfied were you with the guidance in your home country?

Before, during and after my internship I had a lot of contact with Ruben. Before the internship we had a number of meetings in which we discussed everything. Think of what our school expects from us, what we can expect during the internship and how everything is arranged with the accommodation. We were clearly guided in the process towards our internship. Also during and after our internship we had a lot of contact with Ruben which provided a lot of clarity! So I am definitely satisfied with the guidance from the Netherlands.

My Story

On May 3rd I started my internship in Curacao. I gave gym lessons, soccer training and after-school activities here. It was a very educational process, especially because you suddenly have to arrange and undertake everything all by yourself. At the beginning we were with 14 people in a house so you always had someone you could get along with which made it super fun. We often went out together outside of our internship hours. We had super nice internship hours and the lessons were also very fun. You notice that the children here are very grateful for the lessons they receive. Because of that they also participated very enthusiastically in every game. I really enjoyed my time in Curacao and can’t wait to go back to this great island!

What advice would you give to future interns/volunteers?

Really give yourself time to get into it. I had a hard time at first but in the end it is the best time of my life and you learn a lot from this experience!
