Although this area plays an important role in the regional economy, many neighbourhoods also face socio economic challenges such as poverty, unemployment and limited access to good quality education and professional development opportunities.
It is precisely in this setting that the ICT programme runs. The programme focuses on young people and young adults from vulnerable neighbourhoods in La Matanza and gives them the chance to develop digital skills that improve their job prospects. In a world where technology is becoming ever more important, knowledge of ICT, programming and digital tools can make a big difference to their future.
Poverty affects not only families’ finances, but also access to education, technology and personal development. Many young people don’t have enough digital resources or guidance at home to develop their talents fully. This creates a digital divide that limits their chances of further education or a job.
The ICT programme helps close this gap by teaching young people practical, future proof skills. Think of basic computer skills, programming, web development, digital communication, problem solving and working with modern software. Besides technical knowledge, attention is also paid to personal development, teamwork, presenting, project based working and entrepreneurship.
As a programme participant or intern you work with local coordinators and teachers on meaningful projects. You support lessons, guide participants with assignments and help develop new activities and teaching materials. You are never on your own; the programme is run in close cooperation with Argentinian professionals who know the local context well.
By giving young people access to digital skills and technological knowledge, the programme contributes to better prospects and more opportunities in education and work. Technology thus becomes not only a way to develop skills, but also a tool for social change and personal growth in the communities of La Matanza.

ARRIVAL WEEKENDS
It is best to arrive on a weekend day, so you can use the weekend to acclimatise. If a flight is considerably cheaper during the week, you can of course also arrive on a weekday.

About Argentina
Argentina is a country in South America and the second largest on the continent. It has a rich history and culture, with a mix of European, indigenous and African influences. Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, is known for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and European architecture.
Argentina has a population of around 45 million and is very diverse. The majority of the population is of European descent, mainly Spanish and Italian, but there are also large indigenous and African communities in the country. The official language is Spanish.
Argentina also has a lot of culture, with a thriving art, music and literature scene. Tango, a style of music and dance that emerged in Buenos Aires in the late 19th century, is an important part of Argentinian culture and is still widely practised and enjoyed.
However, the country also faces social and economic problems, including poverty, inequality and political instability. But despite these challenges, Argentina remains a unique and fascinating country with a lot to offer, from breathtaking natural landscapes to vibrant cities and a rich cultural heritage.
Pepijn Tiktak
Coordinator
Pepijn successfully sold his own ICT company and has also volunteered in Argentina. He is strongly motivated to set up projects that contribute to the development of children and young people. He wants to pass on his passion for computer science to young people, because he is convinced that digital skills are of great value for the future. With that vision, Pepijn is the initiator and founding father of the IT programme in Buenos Aires.
Accommodation
The accommodation is in the centre of Buenos Aires, in the San Telmo district. This historic neighbourhood is known for its bohemian charm, friendly atmosphere and authentic character. You stay in one of four apartments, sharing your room with other volunteers and interns. All apartments are on the fourth floor and together sleep up to 15 people. Each apartment has its own kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom, which you share with your housemates. All apartments also have air conditioning and free wifi. On the fifth floor there is a spacious roof terrace where you can socialise, play table tennis, enjoy the sun and more. Next to the roof terrace is a communal area where breakfast is served every day, a nice place to get together with other volunteers. In the immediate area you will find lots of great bars, restaurants and shops. The neighbourhood attracts many young people and students, making for a lively day and night life.
