George in Argentina

My story

It got off to a brilliant start. We arrived at the place where we’d be sleeping, where I immediately met the other volunteers. From the very first moment it was a warm welcome, with a few beers, of course. The following Monday was our introduction. There we learnt about the organisation and what they do in Argentina. I have to say it was a lot more than expected. The first week was a bit of settling in, as everything is in Spanish and I hardly speak any Spanish. But still I get a
long way using my hands and feet. For the first three weeks I took part in the childcare programme, which takes place in a ‘soupkitchen’ in a very deprived neighbourhood. I had a great time there with the children. It was a life experience I’ll never forget. I also laughed a lot and played games. After three weeks I started on the sports lessons, because I went travelling during the Christmas holidays. I then took part in the ‘summercamp’, where the children went to a camp
to do various sports. There I mainly helped with giving rugby lessons. After that I switched between the two other sports. Of course, I also took the time to do some travelling. For example, I went to
Uruguay for a weekend and to the Iguazu waterfalls for a few days, which really are the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve ever seen. Argentina is also a country I’d really recommend; I wish I had more time here. The weeks fly by. It feels as if I’ve only just arrived. But sadly my time is almost up already.

Argentina was amazing, just like United Through Sport! What a great organisation!
