Hi, I’m Florian, 18 years old and from Haarlem. I’m a big sports lover and always up for a good time. Before I came to PE, I’d already been coaching athletics for 2 years.

How satisfied were you with the support from Holland?

To prepare for the programme I had two phone calls with Ruben. These were really useful conversations and gave me a good idea of what to expect. He was also easy to reach by WhatsApp/email, which was handy whenever I had a question.

During my final exams I decided I wanted to go to South Africa. New surroundings, new people, just me on my own. It was quite nerve-racking because I’d never travelled alone before and my English wasn’t that good. However, from the moment I arrived it felt right. Everyone is really friendly and so helpful. It’s also great that everyone comes with the same mindset: helping the kids there as much as possible and having a fantastic time. Well, that worked! For 3 months I lived completely carefree and it was wonderful. I had loads of amazing experiences, made loads of new friends (locals and volunteers) and did something good for the people there too. My English improved in leaps and bounds because I spoke it so much.

Outside the volunteering there’s quite a lot to do in the area. Every weekend there were cool activities organised, and there are a few really fun bars/clubs.

I’d simply recommend it to everyone. The trip is unforgettable and the friendships that formed here are almost impossible to describe. I can only look back with a big smile and a warm heart on this beautiful, educational, simply fantastic adventure. I’m writing this less than a week after the end of the programme and I already want to go back.
