Short bio

I am 22 years old and am currently studying sports studies, business and management in Amsterdam, which requires me to complete a total of three internships. My first internship was with El Poder del Deporte in Argentina. It was an incredible experience, and when the opportunity to go to Nepal arose, I knew I had to take it.

How satisfied were you with the support before departure?

As usual, Ruben was very helpful in making sure everyone knew what was happening and when. When I went to Argentina, everything went smoothly and without a hitch. This time, as it was a pilot group, I thought it might not go quite as smoothly, but it certainly did, and I’m very pleased about that.

My story

“It was my first time travelling to Asia, which at first sounded very scary.”

Victoria · volunteering in Nepal

My time in Nepal was incredible. It was my first time travelling to Asia, which at first sounded very daunting. I’m from Spain, so the cultural difference was huge. However, that was the best part – the experience of living within such a different culture teaches you new ways of doing things that you might not have thought of before. Everyone was very welcoming, which made travelling so far much easier, as did the fact that everything is very well organised.
Furthermore, as a footballer, it is really important to me to bring football to those who do not have access to it and to make a special effort to promote girls’ football; and, through the power of sport, I feel I can see it growing.
Nepal is a country that can really benefit from this organisation, which makes it wonderful to be part of it and see how we’re actually making a difference. It’s also an incredible country with stunning landscapes, and I consider myself lucky to have been able to experience it to the full by taking the time to hike to Poon Hill and visit other places such as Chitwan.

What advice would you give to those who come after you?

There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t take a chance and join the programme. It’s an amazing experience, no matter which project you join.
