I’m Kim, I’m 19 years old and in the final year of my Lifestyle Coach course. For my final internship I went to Saint Lucia. After my course I’m starting with the police! I’m very creative, sociable and can always be found at the gym 😉
How satisfied were you with the support from Holland?
Good! I had lots of Teams calls beforehand. I do recommend getting in touch with the current interns in the country for extra information, as they naturally know just that little bit more.

I soon knew that Saint Lucia wouldn’t be an ordinary internship. But that it would be the best time of my life? I’d never have dared to dream it.
For a month I worked on this beautiful island with children aged 3 to 12. That was at football, swimming, PE and the SEN school Aunty Pinkies. Every day was different, and every day gave me energy. The children ran up to me as soon as I arrived, grabbed my hand, and wanted to play and laugh. That feeling that you’re really there for someone is something I never want to miss again.
I helped out at the HAPA sports day event for children with autism, made friendships I never want to lose, and discovered that I can handle much more than I thought. From the Pitons to the Friday street party, every moment on this island felt like a gift.
Coach Trevor called me his ‘star coach’, but the real stars of this story are the children. They showed me what it means to be truly present.
If you’re unsure whether to take this step: do it. Without thinking twice. You’ll leave as a different person, richer, freer and with a heart full of memories you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life.

What advice would you like to give future interns and volunteers?
Do some research on the island so the culture shock won’t be too big! If you’re in doubt, definitely do it!
