INTERNSHIP NEPAL
— The project in Pokhara, Nepal will start on August 28th —
Pokhara is a vibrant city in Nepal where you can support our project by providing sports lessons to children and young people from underprivileged neighborhoods in the sport they enjoy the most. In these areas, children often face limited access to physical activity and organized sports. While they may have PE classes at school, for many it is impossible to participate in high-quality, structured sports activities after school.
As a sports coach, you have the opportunity to inspire and motivate these children to stay active and embrace a healthy lifestyle. By giving lessons in the sport they love, you not only help improve their physical health but also boost their self-confidence and teach them important life skills.
Our projects are also supported by sports students from local universities in Pokhara. This makes it easier to connect with the children and youth in our programs and provides them with a chance to improve their English. At the same time, it’s a great opportunity for you to make friends with peers from Pokhara.
Pokhara itself offers a vibrant and stimulating environment for your internship. With its beautiful location by Phewa Lake, impressive mountains, and welcoming community, it is the perfect place to make a difference while having an unforgettable personal experience.
Poverty is a challenge that many people in Pokhara face. Although the city is a popular tourist destination, some neighborhoods struggle with significant poverty. Families often have limited access to sports facilities, which means children miss out on opportunities to grow up active and healthy.
By collaborating with local organizations and schools, you can have a positive impact on the lives of these children, while also learning valuable life lessons and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Together, we can help break the cycle of poverty and inactivity, contributing to a healthier and more promising future for the children of Pokhara.

WHO IS THIS INTERNSHIP SUITABLE FOR?
Your goal as an intern is not necessarily to train the next international sports star from Nepal—although that could happen! You do not need to be an experienced coach or hold official certifications. A basic knowledge of the sport you will be teaching is important, but what truly makes a difference is your enthusiasm and enjoyment in teaching.
This internship is particularly suitable for students in sports-related programs, but also fits studies such as event and leisure management, marketing, education, or social and cultural studies. It is important to note that you will always be working as a sports coach and/or instructor. In Nepal, it is also possible on certain days to work from the office on your internship or school assignments.
Examples of engaging and educational internship tasks include organizing a large-scale sports event, integrating your own sport into the program, conducting research, or setting up a fundraising initiative.
We take your personal preferences into account whenever possible. It is also possible to conduct research during your internship in Nepal. Please feel free to contact us to discuss the possibilities together.

I am a vegetarian. Will my dietary preferences be taken into account?
If you inform us in advance that you are a vegetarian, this can be accommodated in Nepal.
Can I only give football, basketball, or volleyball lessons?
No, in principle you can teach almost any sport. The Nepal project is still in its early stages, and we are actively expanding our programs. If you want to make a real impact, it can be fun to introduce a new sport!
What do my Nepali lessons look like?
The Nepali lessons take place at our location, daily after dinner. They are taught by a professional teacher and consist of a total of 20 hours. If you would like to take extra lessons, let us know and we can arrange this for you.
What should I keep in mind while abroad?
After our initial, non-binding conversation where everything is explained, we will send you the “welcome pack,” which details everything you need to know: what to bring, what to be aware of, and other important information.
How many other people will I be doing my internship with?
There are always other interns/volunteers at the accommodation in Nepal. The group size varies between 5 and 15 people. They don’t all come from the same country, but from all over the world. You can contact us to ask how many others will be there during your period. Additionally, we create a group chat with everyone traveling during the same timeframe so you can get to know each other beforehand.
Sports in Nepal
Nepal is a country with a rich culture and a growing sports culture. Although resources are often limited, sports and physical activity play an important role in daily life, especially among young people. Some of the most popular sports in Nepal include:
Football: Football is by far the most popular sport in Nepal. It is played in villages, cities, and schoolyards, with many enthusiastic players and supporters. Both national and international competitions are followed closely.
Cricket: Cricket is rapidly gaining popularity, particularly among young people. The increasing success of the national cricket team has contributed to the growth of the sport across the country.
Volleyball: Volleyball is often considered Nepal’s national sport. It is easily accessible, widely played in schools and communities, and popular among both men and women.
Basketball: Basketball is especially popular in urban areas and among young people. More and more schools and sports clubs are including it in their programs.
Athletics: Running and other athletic disciplines are popular, partly due to the mountainous landscape and the strong tradition of endurance.
Traditional martial arts: Various traditional martial arts and self-defense practices are practiced in Nepal, often connected to cultural and spiritual traditions.
Trekking and mountain sports: Due to its unique location in the Himalayas, Nepal is world-renowned for trekking, climbing, and mountain sports. These activities form an important part of the active lifestyle of many Nepalis.
