Short bio

I’m 19 years old and I’m on the sports course in Utrecht. I absolutely love sport and teaching sports lessons. Dance is my sport. I’ve been doing it for suuuper long.

How satisfied were you with the support before departure?

I found the support I got for Costa Rica really good and reassuring. I had personal contact and could send a message at any time of day if I needed help. I also felt that the person I was in touch with was really involved.

My story

“I enjoyed the culture there so much, and the people I stayed with and shared my daily life with”

Sara · volunteering in Costa Rica

I went to Costa Rica for 4 weeks and had the time of my life there. I enjoyed the culture there so much, and the people I stayed with and shared my daily life with. The place I stayed was really nice and you were well looked after. During the week I worked at a school where the teachers and children could speak a bit of English. That helped a lot. What I did find a bit of a shame is that I actually taught very few sports lessons there, which I really wanted to do. I was mainly used as an English teacher. At the weekends we were free and could travel anywhere. The supervisor helped with planning and sometimes came along. I visited really beautiful places in Costa Rica and would definitely love to go back one day.

What advice would you like to give future interns and volunteers?

before you go to Costa Rica it’s useful to read up on the culture there first and adapt to it a little. it would also be handy if you know some Spanish. that makes communicating and getting things done just that bit easier.
