Argentina
Volunteering
Buenos Aires
Our colleagues in Argentina support local projects that use sports as a means to improve the lives of these children. A safe place is created for the young people where they can play sports and have fun. In addition, during sports lessons the children also train important skills such as cooperation, making choices, leadership and communication. As a volunteer you have the choice to provide training in: football, rugby, tennis, baseball and basketball. Of course you are never alone and projects are carried out in consultation with Argentine coordinators. More than 2000 children are now part of these meaningful projects every year.
The sports that are practiced in Argentina are very varied but football remains by far the most popular sport that is played professionally and recreationally. Think of the beautiful derby of River plate – Boca Juniors and you immediately see what this sport does to Argentinians. In the neighborhoods where our foundation is active you will also notice that football gets the most attention. Furthermore, hockey, rugby, swimming and, strangely enough, polo are well-known sports. Pato, the national sport, on the other hand, is not very popular.
Sign UpThe accommodation is located in the heart of Buenos Aires, in the vibrant neighborhood of San Telmo. This historic district is known for its bohemian charm, lively atmosphere, and authentic character. You’ll stay in one of four shared apartments, each accommodating several volunteers or interns. All apartments are located on the fourth floor and together host a maximum of 15 people. Each apartment includes its own kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedrooms, which you’ll share with your housemates. All units are equipped with air conditioning and free Wi-Fi. On the fifth floor, you’ll find a spacious rooftop terrace – the perfect place to relax, socialize, play table tennis, or enjoy the sun. Next to the terrace is a communal space where breakfast is served daily – a cozy spot to connect with other volunteers. In the immediate surroundings, you’ll find plenty of lively bars, restaurants, and shops. The area attracts many young people and students, creating a vibrant atmosphere both day and night.
In 2026, we will be introducing official arrival weekends. We strongly recommend that you plan your arrival for one of the Sundays listed below. These are dates when many volunteers and interns arrive at the same time, followed by an introduction, orientation and icebreaker activities on Monday.
Arriving on one of these Sundays is ideal. If you’re unable to do so, that’s not a big problem — but please try to arrive on a Sunday if possible.

Alejandro Lozano founded a non-profit organization in 2010, shortly after completing his Master’s degree in International Relations in London. Inspired by the success of similar initiatives run by our partner organizations, he took the time to study their methods in depth. With that knowledge, he created a program tailored to the local context and the specific needs of children and young people in Buenos Aires.
Alejandro is deeply passionate about sports, especially hockey. He is actively involved in Argentina’s professional hockey scene and maintains close relationships with players, coaches, and clubs. His admiration for Dutch hockey is significant—not only because of the high level of play, but also due to the professional, inclusive, and community-driven way the sport is organized in the Netherlands. This appreciation is reflected in how he shapes his own project: with a strong focus on quality, accessibility, and team spirit.
Meet Cecilia Wolman (Ceci), a Spanish teacher at the University of Buenos Aires and the partner of Alejandro, your internship supervisor. She will be providing the online Spanish lessons.
The lessons take place every Monday at 07:00 p.m (UK time). The first session will be on 13 October 2025, followed by lessons on:
13 October – 20 October – 27 October – 3 November – 10 November
17 November – 24 November – 1 December – 8 December – 15 December
These lessons are specifically designed for absolute beginners. If you already have some knowledge of Spanish, it’s possible to follow classes at your level once you’re in Buenos Aires.
The full course is free of charge for participants who are involved in the project for at least 10 weeks. If you are joining for a shorter period, you can still participate in the course for a contribution of £80.
