SCHOOL TRIP | STUDY TRIP GHANA
Ghanaians are hugely passionate about sport and will seize every chance to share this love of sport with you. On this trip you will learn all about the culture, play against local teams, coach Ghana’s young talent and discover the stunning flora and fauna of one of the most popular countries in West Africa. Travelling in Ghana not only gives you the chance of a cultural exchange, it also takes you and your fellow travellers to parts of Ghana you would otherwise never see. These sporting school and study trips go beyond what you can read in the guidebooks. Our tailor made trips to Ghana are unique, combining cultural excursions with our community development projects. The trip is also mixed with interactive workshops, presentations, outdoor activities and (sports) games with people your own age, so you learn about each other’s culture. And to top it all off, your group can take on a well matched local Ghanaian team.
Community projects
A trip to Ghana would not be complete without helping out at our community projects in one of the many disadvantaged neighbourhoods of Accra. As part of your school or study trip, your group gets the opportunity to teach and coach children and young people from these neighbourhoods. Every group member gets the chance to coach their chosen sport(s) and pass on valuable knowledge to the children. This is a fantastic chance to connect with local people and give something back to the communities your group visits during its stay in Ghana. Expect plenty of singing and dancing from the children as they show their gratitude for your time and effort.

About Ghana and our project
The Republic of Ghana is a country in West Africa. The whole trip takes place in and around the capital, Accra. Many young people in this city come from families living in extreme poverty. The Power of Sports aims to give every individual an educational opportunity so they can reach their true potential. Besides their sporting development, all participants in our programmes also receive good quality education. The goal is for students to grow both academically and in sport, giving them the best chance of success. When you join our trip, you will not only meet our participants but also contribute directly to our foundation.
Besides offering sports education to a great many children, we also have our own football academy in Ghana. The academy is home to boys who excel at football and are being trained for a career in top level football. Besides football, each of them is also offered an education. The academy currently has two classrooms of students. If your group consists of good footballers, you can take on our football team, but you can safely assume you will lose.
Where will you be?
Our activities take place in the capital, Accra. The city has around two million inhabitants and is the largest city in the country. The centre of Accra is compact, grown around the historic British, Danish and Dutch forts. Over the years, with migration from rural areas, the city has expanded considerably. You will never escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and that takes some getting used to. Ghanaians are known as warm, friendly and sociable people.
Sport in Ghana
As in many other countries, football is by far the most popular sport. The national football team, the Black Stars, has won the Africa Cup of Nations four times. Basketball has also been played more and more in recent years, with more and more courts appearing on squares in Accra.
Many Ghanaians also play tennis and do athletics, and they are keen boxers, swimmers and table tennis players too. They are certainly a sporty people, as you will discover if you choose to volunteer in Ghana.
James Dzandza
Tour leader
James Dzandza is a Ghanaian with a very well known name in (international) football. For more than 15 years he has been committed to helping less fortunate local people in Accra. He now runs numerous community projects that give Ghanaians better prospects for the future.
