Short biography
I am Ramano, 20 years old and a final year student. My hobbies are football and volleyball.

Through “The Power of Sports” my dream came true and I was able to go to Curaçao for 5 weeks.

How satisfied were you with the guidance in your home country?
From the moment I signed up until the end of my internship, I was very well supported by Ruben and Joel. I also had a great internship supervisor at my placement. Ruben was always easy to reach throughout the entire process. If I had questions, I could message him and I always got a quick response. Overall, everything was top-notch!

My Story

I chose the IBPV elective within my study program, which requires doing an internship abroad. For me, it was a dream to do this in Curaçao, the island where my father was born. Thanks to “De Kracht van Sport,” my dream came true and I was able to go to Curaçao for 5 weeks.

The internship fully met my expectations. I really enjoyed the activities I was able to do with the children. I gave football training sessions, gym classes, and after-school activities where we offered sports and games to children of different ages. It was great that the children were so enthusiastic about everything offered. When it was time to say goodbye, they all wanted to hug me and take pictures. This made me feel that they had a fun time during the activities and training I provided. Even though most children in Curaçao speak sufficient Dutch, I learned a lot about the Antillean culture, which really appeals to me. The people are very hospitable and helpful on the island.

Besides my internship hours, there was plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful island (including the beaches, snorkeling, and national parks) and the nightlife that Curaçao has to offer. My experience with the fellow students I did the internship with and the internship supervisor was very good. We often spent time together outside of internship hours. We also did sports activities like volleyball and beach tennis together. Going out was always fun too 🙂

Since I was already in Curaçao, I was also able to visit family, which was very nice.

I can only say that I would love to go back again!!!

What advice would you give to future interns/volunteers?

My advice to future interns and volunteers is: If you have the chance or opportunity to do an internship abroad, I say go for it! And definitely do it through “The Power of Sports” if you want to be sure of a great and well-organized internship.

It’s an experience you will carry with you for your whole life.
