Mauritius
Internship
Flik en Flac
Mauritius, a remote island in the Indian Ocean, is located approximately 2,000 kilometers off the southeast coast of the African continent. The population of Mauritius is multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multicultural, and multilingual. The country has a rich colonial history involving the Dutch, French, and British, and it is perhaps best known as the home of the extinct dodo bird. Additionally, Mauritius is a well-developed island, highly suited for tourism. The people are friendly, the roads are well-maintained, the food is delicious, and, of course, the beaches are stunning.
The linguistic landscape of Mauritius reflects the diverse cultural backgrounds of the island. The most widely spoken language is Mauritian Creole, a blend of French, English, African, and Asian influences. However, most people in Mauritius can communicate effectively in English. Additionally, a portion of the population speaks Bhojpuri, an Indo-Aryan language. This linguistic diversity symbolizes the island’s rich history of immigration and colonial influence, with multilingualism playing a crucial role in intercultural communication and national identity.
As an intern in Mauritius, you will work as a sports coach at various sports fields and schools across the island. The children you will be working with come from diverse backgrounds and do not receive structured sports lessons, either at school or in clubs. Our foundation uses sports as a means to bring these children together. Furthermore, we employ sports as a tool to address social issues in these communities. The sports lessons are designed to teach children essential skills such as teamwork, decision-making, and leadership. In addition, we provide educational opportunities to help children develop their talents.
Beyond the day-to-day activities, this internship offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Mauritius. By engaging with local communities, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the island’s social dynamics and the challenges faced by its diverse population. You will also have the chance to explore Mauritius’s natural beauty, from its pristine beaches to its lush national parks, and to participate in various cultural events and traditions. This experience will not only enhance your professional skills but also broaden your perspective, making it a truly transformative journey.
Sign upAs an intern, your goal isn’t necessarily to train Mauritius’s next international sports star—though it could happen! You don’t need to be a seasoned coach or hold certificates; a basic understanding of the sport you’ll be teaching is helpful. What truly matters is your enthusiasm and energy during your lessons.
This internship is ideal for students in sports-related fields, as well as those studying event/leisure management, marketing, education, social sciences, or cultural studies. However, you will always be engaged as a sports coach and/or instructor. If you’re interning in Mauritius, you can choose to spend some days at the office working on school or internship assignments. Some exciting projects include organizing large-scale sports events, integrating your own sport into the curriculum, conducting research, or planning fundraising events.
We are flexible and can accommodate your preferences. If you’re interested in conducting research in Mauritius, feel free to contact us to explore the possibilities.
